Topic 2: Peer Assessment

A learner-centred approach whereby learners evaluate and make judgements about the work produced by their peers (Nicol, Thomson, and Breslin 2014).

Dual role for learners:

a) Senders of feedback

b) Recipients of feedback

Necessary for learners to get taught the habits and skills of collaboration in peer assessment, because both are of essential value and because peer assessment can help develop, the objectivity required for effective self-evaluation.

The use of technology may  improve the fairness of group assessment by acknowledging, rating and rewarding individual contributions and enhancing students’ learning from team tasks.

The instructors’ role is crucial in being facilitators of feedback activities and providing support towards learners
